Fuel Efficiency in the BMW 5 Series

Five diverse gas mileage stats stem from the three different engines you’ll find in the BMW 5 Series. The base 530i trim, paired with the 2.0L BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 4-cylinder engine, achieves an EPA-estimated 25 city and 33 highway MPG.1

If you choose the 530i xDrive, which features the signature BMW all-wheel drive system, with the standard engine, it achieves an EPA-estimated 23 city and 32 highway MPG.* Both give you respectable efficiency on the road, although the 530i trim provides more.

Both the 540i and the 540i xDrive use the 3.0L BMW M TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine, but they provide different gas mileage stats. With the 540i, you can achieve an EPA-estimated 25 city and 32 highway MPG, which rivals that of the 530i stats.1 Meanwhile, the 540i xDrive trim achieves an EPA-estimated 23 city and 31 highway MPG, similar to that of the 530i xDrive.1

As you can see, there are plenty of options for you to take advantage of on your next road trip. There are many different experiences to have, especially in a new ride you’ll love. Plus, with 18 gallons of fuel, the BMW 5 Series can take you there.

Performance Expectations Down the Line

There are more trim levels to explore, and therefore more performance expectations to get excited about. Hop behind the wheel of the next one, the M550i xDrive, and you get the 4.4L BMW M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine that produces 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque.

Incredible, right? This powerful engine helps you reach 60 MPH in only 3.6 seconds, so you’ll be leaving other cars behind in the dust. How’s your need for speed feeling?

Each engine and trim uses an 8-speed Sport Automatic transmission with Sport and Manual shift modes. This allows the transmission to slip into the right gear through the steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Your BMW 5 Series also includes the standard Driving Dynamics Control system that comes with ECO PRO, COMFORT, and SPORT modes so you can manage the road according to your preferences. Driving conditions according to you, now that’s what we call next-level driving.

So, if you remain within the 100- or even 50-mile range, where are you heading for your next trip? There’s plenty to choose from, and it all depends on your preference. You could take a journey to Morgan’s Landing Campground to get a dose of the great outdoors. If that’s not your thing, there are plenty of other options, too.

You’ll have the opportunity to explore plenty of locales in between, like Montgomery or Calhoun. However, you can also stop at famous must-sees, like Elvis Presley’s birthplace and museum, for one, or the Hall of Fame restaurant.

You can even cross the state line and head to Alabama. After that, you break out of the 100-mile range, but whatever you choose, it’ll be an adventure to remember, especially in the BMW 5 Series.
