BMW 8 Series Trim Levels
Five trim levels comprise the lineup of the refined BMW 8 Series. Depending on your expectations, one of these trims could be ideal for your travels. The trims are 840i, 840i xDrive, M850i xDrive, and M8 Competition Coupe.
BMW 8 Series Performance
Both the 840i and the 840i xDrive use a 3.0L BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine. This machine produces 335 horsepower with 368 lb-ft of torque for an energetic drive.
If you’re veering toward the base trim, you’ll have rear-wheel drive. The latter trim has an all-wheel drive, as denoted by the xDrive name.
With the introductory trim, you can rely on an EPA-estimated 23 city and 30 highway MPG.* If you intend to drive the 840i xDrive, you can expect to achieve an EPA-estimated 20 city and 27 highway MPG.*
The next set of trims, the M850i xDrive and M8 Competition Coupe, derive their power from a 4.4L BMW M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine. Both also provide you with all-wheel drive, although the highest trim offers 2-wheel drive capability as well.
If you choose the M850i xDrive, the engine produces 523 horsepower. In the M8 Competition Coupe, it raises the production level to 617 horsepower.
Every trim except the M8 Competition Coupe offers the versatility of a standard 8-speed Sport Automatic transmission with Sport and Manual shift modes. For drivers of the M8 Competition Coupe, you can expect the seamless shifting of an 8-speed M Sport Automatic transmission with DriveLogic.

Standard Power Multifunction front seats contribute to a more relaxed drive that allows you to concentrate on the road and feel less fatigued when you exit. They also come with a heating function, which can do wonders for a sore back.
For those sweltering days, you’ll have standard automatic climate control to circulate the air in the cabin as well as optional ventilated front seats. All trims come standard with extended Merino Leather upholstery.
