If you’re considering the 2021 BMW X5 for your next luxury vehicle, you are probably curious about its configurations. At BMW of Meridian, we’ve created this helpful guide to inform Meridian, Philadelphia, and Laurel, MS, drivers about the inner workings of the BMW X5.
Below, you’ll find details about the engineering of this sophisticated vehicle and learn why it’s such a great choice.
If you want a thrilling ride every time you drive, the BMW X5’s various engines will surely delight you.
The base trim starts the lineup off strong with a 3.0L BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine. It generates 335 horsepower and is equipped on the sDrive40i and xDrive40i trims.
That amount of power will make both vacation trips and grocery runs a joy. If you’re looking for an electric option, you can opt for the plug-in hybrid xDrive45e. It is fitted with the same engine but includes an integrated electric motor. Ultimately, you’ll have a total of 389 horsepower.
The most powerful engine in the lineup is the 4.4L BMW M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine fitted on both the M50i and M trims. In the M50i, it generates 523 horsepower, while in the M trim, it produces 600 horsepower. This difference is due to the unique power-focused engineering of the BMW X5 M.
The X5’s powerful engines are paired with efficient drivetrains that reroute the immense energy of this Sports Activity Vehicle® (SAV®) where it needs to go.
The standard sDrive40i trim is equipped with rear-wheel drive. All other trims, except the M trim, have xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive. With this drivetrain, power from the engine is dispersed where it’s needed, contributing to a smooth, easy, and capable ride.
The BMW X5 M trim comes with an M-tuned xDrive all-wheel-drive system. While similar to the drivetrain in the other trims, this one is performance-tuned to give you the racecar feel in an SAV®.
The BMW X5 is a fantastic Sports Activity Vehicle®. Each trim offers drivers both luxury conveniences and power.
The standard sDrive40i has much to offer with its impressive engine coupled with Dynamic Stability Control and Dynamic Traction Control. When you upgrade to the M50i trim, you get the added benefits of an M Sport Differential and M Sport exhaust system to optimize torque and energy use, respectively.
If you opt for the plug-in hybrid xDrive45e, you’ll benefit from Driving Dynamics Control, which includes ADAPTIVE, SPORT, HYBRID, and ELECTRIC modes.
Whichever configuration you choose, expect a fast and commanding vehicle that takes driving to the next level.
Now that you know what the X5 offers, it’s time to take it out for a spin. At BMW of Meridian, we’re prepared to get you behind the wheel of your own BMW.
Meridian, Philadelphia, and Laurel, Mississippi, drivers are welcome to schedule an appointment to test drive a BMW X5 and decide for themselves if this SAV® is everything they’ve been looking for.
