The various lights within your instrument cluster alert you to the status of different systems in your vehicle. Common indication lights include the check engine light, seatbelt warning, high beams, and others. While some indicate whether a feature is turned on, others signify issues that may need a service technician to inspect. Knowing what these lights mean will keep you safe while driving.
X7 Red Lights
Person with a seat belt across their chest/waist—The driver or passenger seat belt is not buckled. There is a light for corresponding rear seats as well.
Buckled person, red circle to the left—The airbag system and/or seat belt tensioner may have a problem. See a technician right away.
((P)) with PARK—The parking brake is engaged.
BRAKE ((!))—The brake system is experiencing a malfunction. Pull over where it’s safe and contact a technician.
Front-facing car—As part of Front Collision Mitigation, brake and create more distance when this is lit. When flashing with an audio cue, brake immediately and be prepared for an evasive maneuver.
Car side view—Intersection Collision Warning is sensing a risk of collision with a crossing vehicle.
Person in the road—A pedestrian or cyclist is sensed ahead. Brake or turn to avoid a collision.
Three people and deer in street—At night, the infrared camera may sense pedestrians or animals ahead. When lit, prepare to brake. When flashing with audio cue, brake and evade.
Car on road with speedometer—The Active Cruise Control Stop & Go function; when flashing, brake and make an evasive maneuver.
Steering wheel—When flashing with an audio cue, the steering and traffic jam assistant will be turned off.
BMW X7 Yellow Lights
Steering wheel—When lit, a system interruption in the steering and traffic jam assistant is about to occur. When flashing, a lane marker was driven over.
((ABS)) or ABS—The antilock system may be malfunctioning. Avoid sudden braking and prepare to slowly come to a stop using more distance. Visit a technician right away.
Car with swerving lines—When flashing, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) is operating the drive and braking forces to stabilize the X7. Slow your vehicle. When lit steadily, DSC has experienced an error. Visit a technician.
Car with swerving lines, OFF—The DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) is turned off, or the Dynamic Traction Control is turned on.
(!) with a notched line—The Flat Tire Monitor senses a loss of tire pressure. Slow down steadily.
Steering wheel with an “!”—The power steering system may be malfunctioning. See a technician right away.
Engine—When lit, emissions are degrading. When flashing, the engine is experiencing multiple misfires. See a technician.
BMW X7 Green Lights
Person with seat belt over chest/waist—The corresponding rear seat is buckled in.
ßà—The turn signal is on. When flashing rapidly, a bulb is burned out.
Opposing capital Ds with lines—Parking lights are on.
Diagonal lines with D—Low beams are on.
Car positioned diagonally in a traffic lane—A lane marking is detected at one side of the vehicle, warning you to recenter in your lane.
“Low beams” light plus a squiggly vertical line—Front fog lights are on.
Horizontal lines with D and A—High beam assistant is active.
AUTO H—Automatic Hold is engaged, and the vehicle is held in place when stopped.
Speedometer with LIM—When lit, the Speed Limiter system is on. When flashing, the speed limit has been exceeded.
Speedometer with notch—Cruise control is active.
Car with speedometer—Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go is active.
ASSIST—Speed Limit Assist is working together with cruise control.
SET—Lights after manually setting a speed limit for Speed Limit Assist.
Steering wheel—Steering and traffic jam assistant is active.
Gray line to one side, green steering wheel—Lane change assistant indicates that a signaled lane change to the corresponding side is not possible.
Arrow next to a steering wheel—Lange change assist carries out lane change indicated.
Gray arrow next to a green steering wheel—Lane change indicated is currently not possible.
ASSIST PLUS—Extended Traffic Jam Assistant is active.
BMW X7 Blue Lights
Horizontal lines with D—High beam headlights are active.
X7 Gray Lights
Car with speedometer—When steady, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go is interrupted. When flashing, conditions are not met to activate the system.
Steering wheel—Steering and traffic jam assistant is ready to use.
ASSIST PLUS—Extended Traffic Jam Assistant has been interrupted.
